Synopsis
Set in the UK of the 1980s, four young immigrants try to find their way in a white, working class town. These tropical fish out of water, find their purpose in music. When they win a national music contest, they are awarded the ultimate prize - a tour of the USA. When tragedy strikes, they must navigate between opportunity & obligation
From tender ballads to protest rock songs, The Empire Club rides on the ‘New Wave’, telling a moving story of Love, Hope and Dreams.
The Empire Club arrives at a time of resurgent interest in all things 80’s, uniting music fans across multiple generations. With its emphasis on the strong bonds of friendship in the face of working class struggles, The Empire Club is a modern Musical inspired by the Dickens classics ‘Nicholas Nickleby’ (novel) and ‘Oliver!’ (Musical).
Refracted through the lens of 1980’s music and culture, The Empire Club explores the gulf between opportunity and obligation - a gulf that is ultimately bridged by love.
